Position Purpose
Under general direction of the Director of Marketing and Customer Engagement and the Communications Manager, this position serves as an external communications professional and contact for Renown Health. Supporting the organization’s purpose and strategic plan, promoting and protecting the organization’s brand and reputation, and daily coordination of public relations functions on behalf of Renown are key components of this position.
Nature and Scope
Media relations and content publication * Evaluate incoming media requests for appropriateness, feasibility and value to Renown. Coordinate interviews and photo shoots with internal spokespersons and/or patients. Provide training to ensure the best possible representation of Renown. Research issues requiring fact verification and/or background information. * Write articles, create video, and utilize social media and web channels to publish content in alignment with marketing, public relations and communication strategies. Research and develop press releases, media statements and media advisories. Maintain awareness of all available outlets for ‘free’ media and consumer-generated coverage. Localize national stories and trends for content publication. * Keep abreast of strategic priorities, digital communication initiatives and trends, survey research, technology/facility advancements and employee accomplishments. Recommend and initiate positive publicity and promotion through a variety of public, consumer-generated and media outlets to maximize coverage. Develop and execute multi-channel external communication plans for key initiatives. Serve as internal consultant for leadership as well as entities such as Renown Health Foundation and Renown businesses. * Provide education to print, TV, radio and Internet media representatives relative to policies and procedures concerning media access to Renown property, staff and patients. * As needed, serve as spokesperson with consultation from the Director of Communications & New Media and/or Communications Manager. Facilitate media interviews, visits and on-site escorts. * Manage public relations sponsorships to support strategy and ensure that contractual obligations are met. * Monitor a variety of media outlets for extent, positioning and accuracy of coverage. Ensure that messages are consistent and provide post-story coaching as needed. Summarize media coverage to keep internal stakeholders apprised coverage, issues and competitive landscape. Crisis/Issue Management * Ensure immediate and direct access by media representatives by serving in an on-call capacity during regular office hours and in department on-call rotation after-hours. Develop and communicate after-hours on-call schedule for department. Provide training for department as needed. * Maintain on-going awareness of potentially sensitive issues and identify those with potential for high level of media interest, adverse publicity and/or public reaction. Proactively take necessary steps to manage and minimize impact of the issue. Keep Director of Communications & New Media, Communications Manager and other key stakeholders apprised of related media requests. * Participate in strategy sessions to develop message and positioning; develop and execute external communication plans for critical/complex issues. * Be aware of high profile patients and work with patient/family, nursing administrative coordinators and managers, Social Services and Patient Relations to ensure media inquiries are handled according to the wishes of the patient/family and in accordance with federal patient privacy regulations. * Serve as PIO and company spokesperson as needed. Community Relations/Outreach * Represent Renown on designated community collaborations, external committees and boards, and at designated events (some of which occur after hours). * Ensure accuracy of website community information. Research and/or appropriately route phone and email inquiries on a wide variety of topics. Administrative/Miscellaneous * Produce reports as needed. * Produce daily electronic clip service for internal customers. * Research and write policies and procedures, and provide in servicing to affected internal and external contacts as needed. * Provide support for overall marketing and communication strategies. * Complete special projects as requested. Minimum Qualifications Requirements – Required and/or Preferred
Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communication, or similar field required.
Experience: Five years’ experience in public relations, journalism, communications or related field required. Healthcare experience preferred. Strong, demonstrable writing, verbal communication and digital communication skills required.
Computer / Typing: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, internet content systems and social media platforms desirable.
