Incumbent is responsible for:
Planning, organizing, managing and evaluating the CDI program
Monitors achievement of program objectives and implements program changes to improve outcomes.
In collaboration with the Director, the Manager prepares, administers and monitors departmental operating and capital budget and maintains budgets within allocated funds.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures of the Department. Allocates and assigns staff for proper utilization of personnel in relation to patient, service line and organizational needs. Initiates hiring and termination decisions, and performs annual evaluations. Schedules and monitors assignments, and controls staffing levels to meet budgetary guidelines. Provides counseling and training, addresses disciplinary problems
Promotes the role of CDI within the Health System by acting as an effective liaison with managers, directors and physician leaders
Participates in the planning and development of educational programs for CDI staff. Coordinates and documents departmental orientation and in-service training.
Provides expertise and direction to CDI staff for solving complex clinical patient situations
Supports culture of continuous quality improvement. Works within a team environment to manage the total function of the CDI service.
Actively participates in organizational committees.
Participates in activities of professional associations.
Promotes a positive, safe environment.
Keeps abreast of current professional standards in the health field and makes recommendations on changes in policy and programs.
Performs other related duties as may be requested by Administration of the Health System.
Ensures staff in this department is kept current on regulations and procedures and that they have the tools they need to perform their duties at optimal levels.
Ensures the department and its staff are able to maintain a high level of knowledge of regulations and timeliness to ensure compliance with all processes.
Oversees the quality of work and if necessary, perform the role of CDI staff, establish goals in coordination with hospital executive management and monitor progress toward the quality goals through established tracking tools while evaluating and implementing best practices to ensure maximization of the hospital resources.
Collaboration between Health Information Management (HIM), VP Revenue Cycle, CFO's, and other hospital leadership for knowledge sharing and educational purposes on all CDI matters.
Communicate with the physicians regarding documentation to obtain appropriate reflection of severity of illness, risk of mortality, and DRG assignment to facilitate accurate coding of the record.
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Thorough working knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Demonstrated knowledge of CDI principles and methodology
Demonstrated ability to:
Communicate effectively with health care professionals and external case managers.
Maintain professional relationships; work effectively and collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Actively pursue continuing education and training opportunities in CDI.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding the medical record.
Understand insurance and payer requirements.
By nature of current license for RN and department evaluation competency is demonstrated for ability to perform job duties.
