Becker’s Hospital Review has named Dr. Doug Merrill, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, to the “100 Hospital & Health System CMOs to Know” for 2018. He joins honorees from Mount Sinai, Virginia Mason and Cleveland Clinic, among others. Check out the list here.
Dr. Merrill joined Renown in 2017 bringing more than 30 years of medical, hospital and teaching experience spanning quality and patient safety to surgical care and interdisciplinary team training.
In his first year at Renown, he has developed the structures needed to support systemic accountability, a strong Bioethics program, physician wellness and a new physician leadership curriculum.
In his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Academic Officer, Dr. Merrill has improved clinical patient care and safety standards throughout Renown Health’s integrated network. He also develops educational and research endeavors for the organization’s medical staff and leads collaborations with Renown’s medical partners like the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Stanford Medicine and St. George’s School of Medicine.
Dr. Merrill earned his MD at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Stanford University, his MBA at the University of Iowa and a Masters in Bioethics and the Medical Humanities at the University of Louisville.
